Bill Offered To Construct A Wyoming Mount Rushmore
What would you think about Wyoming having its own Mount Rushmore?
We could just invade South Dakota and take it from them, but no. Bad idea.
Six Wyoming legislators want the Cowboy State to have its own version of Mount Rushmore.
However, don't expect it to look the same.
Bill 106, “Monument to America,” has been offered up asking for $40,000 to establish a task force.
The job of the task force would be to recommend a monument by the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, which is the Fourth of July in 2026.
No reason was given as to why such a task force would cost $40,000.
If built, you could expect to see a monument about the same size and dimension as Mount Rushmore.
However, Wyoming's monument would feature the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries of the United States—no word yet as to what would be carved.
There is also no idea where such a monument would be placed.
A better question would probably be, why should this be done with taxpayer money?
The Crazy Horse Memorial has taken a long time just to get this far, but it has been built entirely with private money.
The Federal Government has offered money and assistance to help finish the project on several occasions. But it has always been turned down.
When finished the Crazy Horse monument will be 30 times the size of Mount Rushmore.
The Crazy Horse carving is dedicated to Crazy Horse, a Sioux warrior who defeated Custer in the Battle of Little Big Horn.
The idea of a Wyoming carving as big as Mount Rushmore is an interesting one.
But chances are it will die this legislative session.
Wyoming's new Freedom Caucus has taken over the House and a good chunk of the Senate. They are more interested in cutting costs rather than looking for new ways to spend money.
