Casper Man Sentenced to Federal Prison for Illegal Gun Possession

A Casper man will spend six years five months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to the sentence handed down by a federal judge in Cheyenne on Friday.

Jeremy Dean Priebe, 43, also must pay a $100 special assessment, a $200 fine and be on supervised probation for three years after his release from custody, U.S. District Court Judge Alan Johnson ruled.

In November, Priebe was under investigation by Casper police and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms anded Explosives for methamphetamine distribution and possession of firearms, according to the criminal complaint filed by the ATF agent on Nov. 25.

He had been convicted in 2009 of felony property destruction, which was punishable by more than one year in prison, according to the complaint.

State district court records also showed that he had been charged several times with domestic violence-related crimes.

Before his arrest on thee federal firearms charge, Priebe and Erin Kampe allegedly robbed the Oregon Trail Bar in Mills on Nov. 30.

Priebe was arrested a week later by local authorities. He was reported arrested by federal authorities on Dec. 10, the day he made his initial appearance in federal court to hear the felon in possession charge, according to federal court records.

On Jan. 15, the federal grand jury handed up the indictment with the sole count of felon in possession of a firearm charge. Priebe pleaded guilty on March 4. The sentencing dates were changed several times due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
