Cheney Campaign Raises Almost $1.9 Million During Second Quarter Of 2021
The Tuesday report said Cheney raised $1.88 million in the April-June of this year. That topped the $1.5 million the incumbent Republican from Wyoming raised during the first quarter of the year, giving her a total of $2.85 million on hand for her re-election run next year.
Cheney, who has been a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump, already has several announced GOP opponents for re-election. They include state lawmakers Chuck Gray and Anthony Bouchard, Laramie County Attorney Darin Smith, Marissa Joy Selvig of Riverton, and Air Force veteran Bryan Miller of Sheridan.
Bouchard about a month ago said he had raised $500,000 since the start of the year.
Several other candidates are rumored to be considering runs for the seat as well. Cheney has angered many Trump supporters in the state by voting for his impeachment and for supporting a bipartisan commission to study the Jan. 6 riots in Washington D.C.
That proposal was defeated in the U.S. Senate, but Cheney again angered Trump's allies by agreeing to serve on a House panel looking into the riots. The August 2022 Wyoming Congressional Primary election is still over a year away.
Former President Trump has vowed to endorse one of the candidates running against Cheney in an effort to unite her opponents behind one candidate. Cheney, the daughter of former Vice-President Dick Cheney, has been one of the few prominent Republicans to openly criticize Trump.
