Demolished Highway Patrol Car in Wheatland, Wyoming
If you pull into Wheatland, Wyoming, exit 78 off Interstate 25, you will see this wreck in front of the Wyoming Highway Patrol Station.
Your first reaction might be to ask if there were any survivors.
You'll be happy to know there were.
Trooper Miears was traveling east on U.S. 14-16-20 near Wapiti with his cruise control set at 65 mph.
"As I continued driving east, I noticed the semi-truck started to make its left-hand turn. I thought to myself, surely he has to see me and will stop," Miears said.
"As I got close to the business entrance, I realized the driver of eh semi-truck did not see me coming, and that is when I decided it was to to slam on the brakes and prepare for what I thought could be the worst thing that could ever happen to me and my family."
Miears escaped the crash without any broken bones.
That's amazing to think of when you see the condition of his vehicle.
He continues to recover from the crash.
The Cody trooper offers life-saving advice to all drivers.
"If you are driving, make sure to wear your seatbelt, because seat belts truly do save lives, and please, don't drive distracted," said Miears.
This highway patrol car makes its rounds across Wyoming so that folks can see what can happen with distracted driving and why we all need to wear seatbelts.
