Favorite Cheyenne Vinyl Record Store Has A New Owner
There once was a used bookstore in downtown Cheyenne. However, bookstores are harder to find these days, as people are reading on their tablets and mobile devices.
The owner notices that there has been a resurgence in vinyl records. Used and classic records are popular. So he moved the books out, the records in, and changed the name to Downtown Vinyl.
A few years later, he retired and sold the store with the new owner packing it with records, cassettes, and 8-track tapes along with players.
Now he has sold the store to yet another, and he just took it over on Halloween of 2025.
As of 1000 this morning Chuck and I became the former owners of Downtown Vinyl. It has been our pleasure to meet all of the great customers/friends and wish you all the best. We leave Downtown Vinyl in great hands please keep supporting John as we know he will do great things for the store. Thanks again. Chuck and Kay Bybee
It's official. John Chernogorec is now the proud owner of Downtown Vinyl!
John is NOT new to Cheyenne. He knows the town well, having been a long-time resident.
His first customer was Wyoming artist and photographer Tim Mandese. Time saw the post about a new owner on Facebook and rushed right over with Wyoming's radio talk host, Glenn Woods, since they both know John.
It's not all old records. He had the latest vinyl from today's top artists.
Some people spend hours poring through this collection, so it's nice to know that this story is not going away.
Notice, in the photo below, the old tape and record players, along with radios and stereos, are off to the left of this picture. So if you need the equipment, he has it. Including reel-to-reel.
The store is easy to find.
1612 Capitol Ave, Cheyenne, WY 82001
Coffee shops, restaurants, and many other stores are right nearby. You can see the shop from the old train Depot. Downtown Vinyl is right next to the old Heinz building.
