CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — A new system of filters is keeping trash out of storm sewers in Cheyenne.

The local Rotary Club plans to use a $100,000 grant from Microsoft to buy at least 50 of the filters called Gutter Bins. Casper-based Frog Creek Partners makes the Gutter Bins.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports the filters fit on existing storm drains and capture everything from sediment to hydrocarbons.

A removable filter can be thrown away or recycled like a coffee filter. The goal is to clean up Crow Creek, a stream that used to support a variety of wildlife before Cheyenne grew into one of Wyoming's biggest cities.
