For the weekend of January 16 - 18, 2026.

Both hands on the wheel this weekend, if you drive at all. Exercise extreme caution.

A high-pressure system sitting in just the right place has caused most of our usual winter weather to go around eastern Wyoming and a few other states. It has been a harsh winter everywhere else.

That system has moved just a little west and has opened the gate a small amount, allowing heavy winds and a touch of snow. This will be just a little taste of what we have been missing.

WYDOT has been issuing travel warnings. You can view their interactive map at this link. Expect some areas to have winds from 30 mph and higher. A few areas can expect gusts up to 60mph. WYDOT has issued warnings for light and high-profile vehicles.

Some areas will get light snow. A few areas can expect more than just a little snow, but we are NOT talking blizzard.

WYDOT has a great interactive forecast map at this link for the route you are considering. Just type in the road or roads you want to take, and you will see what is going on before you travel.

From the National Weather Service:

- A widespread strong to locally damaging wind event remains on
track for much of the area this evening through Friday.

- A strong cold front this evening will bring a brief window for
locally intense snow showers and the potential for a flash
freeze.

- High winds may continue through Sunday in the wind-prone areas.

- Elevated to near critical fire weather conditions are expected
daily through at least Saturday due to gusty winds, low
humidity, and dry fuels.

Exploring The Lost Town Of Yoder Wyoming

Between Cheyenne and Torrington, but mostly closer to Torrington, and just off of Highway 85, is, or was, the tiny town of Yoder, Wyoming. For such a forgotten place, you would be surprised at how well-kept it is. Population 133.
