Emergency Train Repairs Complete At DIA, But Travelers Should Still Arrive Early
Although train issues have been fixed at Denver International Airport (DIA), officials say travelers should still plan to arrive at the airport early for their flights.
The trains that transport passengers to their designated gates at DIA ran at a reduced capacity last Friday (Aug. 20) following an incident that occurred early Friday morning; a breaker trip caused four train cars at DIA filled with about 200 people to lose power.
Passengers on board were stuck for about four minutes.
The trains were reportedly down for about one hour while emergency personnel escorted the passengers through walkways, then swept the tunnels to ensure no one had been left behind.
DIA officials said repairs to the train to the gates were completed at around 10 a.m., nearly 10 hours after the incident. By 2:15 p.m. Friday, security checkpoints and trains had returned to normal operations.
Although emergency repairs were complete, DIA officials said the delays from last Friday have impacted security wait times at the airport, and travelers "may have to wait more than two hours to get through TSA security checkpoints."
