There is a bill, currently being reviewed by a U.S. Senate committee, regarding the sale of BLM land.

As you might imagine, the internet has exploded over the topic, and folks in Western states are not happy.

But much of what the public has heard is not true.

Some special interest groups are spreading misinformation about the true nature and reason for the proposal.

Wyoming Congresswoman Harriet Hageman called Wyoming's morning radio talk show and spoke to Glenn Woods, in the hopes of clearing up some bad information.

You can listen to the full interview below.

Here are some basic facts.

All public lands ARE NOT for sale.

America's most beautiful places and the best hunting and fishing grounds are NOT to be sold.

The purpose of the bill is to sell land managed by the US Forest Service (USFS) and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to partially fill the need for affordable housing.

Senator Mike Lee’s office has not issued any official maps of what land they are talking about at this time.

The maps you see on internet posts regarding this bill have nothing to do with this bill.

It also specifically states in the bill that Federally Protected Land is excluded and specifically excludes:

National Monuments, National Recreation Areas, components of the National Wilderness Preservation System, components of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System, components of the National Trails System, National Conservation Areas, units of the National Wildlife Refuge System, units of the National Park System, a National Preserve, a National Seashore or National Lakeshore, a National Historic Site, a National Memorial, a National Battlefield, National Battlefield Park, National Battlefield Site, or National Military Park, or a National Historical Park.

State Governors and Secretaries of State will be included in the decision-making process.

There will be a public comment period.
