Videos: Driving Through Deadly Wyoming Fires
Red Canyon Fire, east of Thermopolis, Wyoming
As of Sunday, 07/17/24, 68,450 acres are burning / 0% containment
The fire is exhibiting extreme fire behavior and has crossed several potential hold points, including the 172 Road.
The fire is growing in several directions, approaching the Washakie County line on the north side of the fire as well as the Fremont County line on the south side of the fire. (Watch Duity).
Imagine being on the front line, fighting this thing.
You can see what that looks like in the video below.
The next video, below, will show you the intensity of trees erupting in flames right in front of the fire truck.
At this point, all firefighters can do is hope to carve containment lines to see if they can box the flames in and keep them from spreading.
But this kind of heat generates its own intense wind.
Containment is almost impossible.
The rough terrain of those mountains does not help.
Evacuations: A new evacuation order has been issued for the Red Canyon Fire. The evacuation area is south of Buffalo Creek Road, east of Jones Creek Road, and west of Reck Road from the fire area to the Fremont County line. This includes all of Kirby Creek, Lake Creek, Bridger Creek, and the Pack Saddle area.
