Pilots of small planes, like bush planes, are always looking for a new destination. They want to land somewhere different, camp, hike, fish, and come home with stories.

Glendo, Wyoming has a small grass runway with a beautiful stand of trees that are perfect for camping under. But as attractive as the area is, most pilots complain that there isn't a toilet or water.

At this year's Glendo Fly-in, an announcement was made by town officials. They want to change all of that.

They are teaming up with the RAF (Recreational Aviation Foundation) to add a few things that would attract pilots to camp, enjoy the town, and the lake.

They want to add a small cabin, a permanent toilet, a covered picnic area, and a fire pit.

The funds are being raised through donations and public participation, and will not be utilizing taxpayer dollars. That is where the RAF comes in. If you are interested, you can help with this and other projects like it. Contact The RAF through this link.

Below is a video of a pilot who lands and camps at Glendo. She likes it but wishes the place had a bit more to offer adventurers like her.

RAF is a national non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and improving backcountry airstrips.

RAF frequently highlights Thomas Memorial Airport GLENDO (76V), a public-use grass runway airport located just 1 mile north of Glendo, as a premier destination for underwing airplane camping due to its close proximity to the scenic Glendo Reservoir.

A timeline was not given for the construction of these new amenities. But the town is working closely with the RAF to improve what is thought to be one of the prettiest landing and camping spots for pilots in Wyoming.

EPIC 20th Annual Glendo Fly-iIn

This was the best event Glendo has ever held, other than the Eclipse of 2017.

The tiny town has a lot going for it, besides sitting at the edge of one of Wyoming's biggest and most famous reservoirs.

There's a little grass airstrip with a group of big shade trees right along the runway that is just perfect for camping.

Each year, the town hosts their annual Fly-in.

Pilots come from all over the region to camp and compete.

It's free to the public to join, camp, and watch.
