
Wyoming Gusts 100 MPH – PLUS – Though Saturday
Had enough of Wyoming wind this season? Sorry to say that what you've experienced so far has just been a warmup. Big winds are coming later this week. Starting Wednesday, these winds continue through Saturday.
Let's start with Wednesday, 3/12/26. The National Weather Service is warning.
HIGH WIND WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY MORNING THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING...
* WHAT...West winds 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 75 mph possible. But hold on, we are just getting started. The winds pick up even more before they calm down over the weekend.
* WHEN...From Thursday morning through Thursday evening.
* IMPACTS...Mainly for transportation. Strong crosswinds will be
hazardous to lightweight or high-profile vehicles, including
campers and tractor-trailers.

On Friday, some gusts could reach and maybe exceed 100 MPH.

Including the cities of Garrett.

* WHAT...West winds 40 to 60 mph with gusts up to 100 mph possible.
* WHERE...North Laramie Range.
* WHEN...From late tonight through Saturday evening.
* IMPACTS...Mainly for transportation. Strong crosswinds will be
hazardous to lightweight or high-profile vehicles, including
campers and tractor-trailers.

This is handy if you're driving and want to know where you'll get hit by the worst of the gusts. There is a reason why these spots stand out.
Imagine putting your thumb over the end of a garden hose. That pressure has to go somewhere. That's why it squirts out high and far. The same happens when high-pressure winds have to squeeze through narrow passages in the mountains and hills.
Keep this map in mind if you are driving in these areas during high wind events.
