Just imagine for a moment that you died in your favorite EZ chair, at home.

Then, someone had the brilliant idea to put that chair in a museum with a plaque telling visitors that YOU DIED THERE!

That is the case with the chair of Wild Bill Hickock.

As you know, Wild Bill was sitting in a chair, his back to the back door of the saloon, playing poker.

That's when Jack McCall came in from the back door and shot Wild Bill in the back of the head.

Several famous things came from that moment.

Aces and Eights are now called the Dead Man's Hand.

A little less known is Wild Bill's chair, which is on display where he was shot.

On this day back in 1876, James Butler Hickok, otherwise known as the Old West folk hero “Wild Bill” Hickok, was shot dead during a poker game in Deadwood, Dakota Territory. The two black Aces and two black Eights that Wild Bill was holding while shot down came to be known in poker as the Dead Man’s Hand.

This is Wild Bill Hickok’s “death chair” from when he was shot from behind and killed in. Normally, Wild Bill sat with his back against the wall…until he didn’t.

There is still some mystery as to if Wild Bill was holding aces & eights when he died.

It is said that those were the cards he dropped. But that story was told many years later.

So what proof do we have that this is the chair he died in?

People back then said so. That's about it.

Model Trains Astound & Inspire At Cheyenne Depot

Recently, the depot at Cheyenne, Wyoming, held Depot Days to celebrate the history of one of America's most important railroad stops.

Special thanks to the Slick Rail.

With its many detailed and weathered structures trackside, the Slick X Line O-scale layout is fun for both young and old.

The 40-foot-long modular traveling display was built by five members over a 2-year period, using their 1st letter of each of their names to form the name.
