In Wyoming every town is a small town, and we like it that way.

That means every parade is small and basic, but filled with small town, big country, pride.

A state like Wyoming does not take pride in our country lightly. Those who have served and are serving in any way are honored. Folks will stand and salute when the flag goes by.

I'm not an emotional guy, but some years ago I was brought to tears when watching a 4th of July parade in Gillette, Wyoming. A few young men were back in town from serving overseas in the war on terror. They represented every branch of the military. They walked down the street in the middle of the parade in uniform. As they passed people leaped to their feet. It was like watching the wave at a sporting event. A roaring cheer went up as they passed. Hats came off and people screamed "WE LOVE YOU" and "THANK YOU!"

That is how Wyoming does the 4th.
