There's an infection linked to contact with puppies and a case has been reported in Wyoming.

CNN shared this report based on an alert from the Centers For Disease Control. It's a strain of Campylobacter jejuni. According to the Wikipedia definition, it's linked to a type of food poisoning. They believe it originated with puppies in pet stores. The CDC has reported a case in Wyoming and several in Utah based on the map they shared.

According to the CDC alert, there are cases reported in 13 states including Wyoming. This includes 4 hospitalizations, but fortunately no deaths reported. If you're a pet owner, they recommend the following:

Always wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after touching your puppy or dog, after handling their food, and after cleaning up after them.

The CDC also recommends that parents make sure their kids wash their hands especially if a pet has been ill or if they have been in contact with pet feces or urine. They also advise discouraging allowing pets to lick them in the face.

The CDC listed the following symptoms to watch out for:

Most people infected with Campylobacter infection develop diarrhea (often bloody), fever, and stomach cramps 2 to 5 days after being exposed to the bacteria.
