David Street Station’s Ice Rink Gets A Permanent Upgrade
It's a big day for David Street Station as the chiller for the ice skating rink has arrived. This is huge news, as the chiller is owned by David Street Station, meaning it will be permanently installed.
In past years, the chiller has been rented and delivered in mid-November. After installation and a couple of months of skating, the chiller had to be sent back. Thanks to exceptional fundraising efforts, donors have made it possible for David Street Station to extend the skating season, offering more opportunities for the community to create lasting memories.
David Street Station Executive Director, Whitney Asay, says it's been a wild 10 months.
This last ten months has been wild, a very wild ride in raising money for this ice chiller, and it's officially onsite. So, it's pretty exciting around here.
The chiller was just ordered a couple of weeks ago, with the hope that it would arrive before the community Christmas Tree Lighting on David Street on November 29. Not only did it arrive in time for the lighting, but it also came a couple of weeks earlier than expected, which is excellent, because Whitney says it will allow for some extra work that needs to be done.
It's really exciting, because it's a permanent unit we just have some extra work and stuff that we're going to have to do to make sure it's in right.
The glycol lines in the past have all been temporary lines, the electrical has all been temporary, so all of those things will need to be hard-piped in to make sure that the its all a permanent thing. I'm glad we have a couple of extra weeks to work through the kinks and work stuff out.
In preparation for the unit's arrival last week, crews were on hand to ready the ice rink area.
