Powell hosts the 2024 Wyoming American Legion Baseball Class ‘A’ State Tournament from July 27-31. It is an eight-team, modified, double-elimination bracket. The Powell Pioneers are the defending Class A State Champions. It was their first championship since 2010. Six of the eight teams were in last year’s field. Also, thanks to a gate sponsor, there is no fee to attend the games.

Saturday, July 27:

Final Score: (W2) Cody Cubs 9 (E3) Sheridan Jets 1 - the Cubs scored 2 in the 3rd inning to take the lead and 7 runs over their last 2 at-bats. K. Phillips had 2 hits & 2 RBIs. Bailey added 1 hit & 2 RBIs for the Cubs.

Final Score: (E1) Casper Drillers 13 (W4) Evanston Outlaws 3 - a 6-run 2nd inning broke it open for the Drillers. Johnson had 3 hits & 2 RBIs for Casper, while Martinez added 2 hits (3B) & 3 RBIs.

Final Score: (W3) Lovell Mustangs 13 (E2) Torrington Tigers 3 - After an early 3-2, Lovell broke it open with 4 in the 3rd and 5 more runs in the 5th inning. Bischoff had 2 hits, 3 RBIs, 2 walks, & scored 3 runs. Files and 2 relievers allowed 3 runs on 6 hits. Hibben had 3 hits & 1 RBI for Torrington.

Final Score: (W1) Powell Pioneers 10 (E4) Gillette Rustlers 4 - the Pioneers trailed 4-0 and 4-2 but rallied with 4 runs in both the 5th & 6th innings. Fauskee had 3 hits & 5 RBIs for Powell. Schwahn added 3 hits & 2 RBIs.

Sunday, July 28:

Final Score: Evanston Outlaws 5 Sheridan Jets 3 - Jets are eliminated - after trailing 3-2, the Outlaws tied it in the 5th and scored 2 runs in the top of the 7th for the win. Kaman had the go-ahead single, and an error led to a second run. Walker Wilson had 2 hits & 1 RBI for Evanston. Lamb had 1 hit & 1 RBI for Sheridan.

Final Score: Torrington Tigers 12 Gillette Rustlers 11 - Rustlers are eliminated - the Tigers scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 7th on an RBI single from Kelly. Hibben had 3 hits & 3 RBIs for Torrington. Desmond added 2 hits & 2 RBIs. Hecker had 4 hits & 3 RBIs in the loss for Gillette.

Final Score: Cody Cubs 5 Casper Drillers 4 - 2 runs by the Cubs in the 6th was just enough to slip past Casper. The Drillers scored once in the bottom of the 7th, but a groundout ended the game. Jarrett & Thomasson had 2 hits & 1 RBI each for Cody.

Game 8: Powell Pioneers 8 Lovell Mustangs 4 - trailing 4-2, Powell took the lead with a 5-run 5th inning. Stenerson had 2 hits (2B) & 4 RBIs. He also got the win in relief. Rodriguez had 3 hits & 2 RBIs for Lovell.

Monday, July 29:

Final Score: Casper Drillers 10 Torrington Tigers 5 - Tigers are eliminated - facing a 3-0 deficit, the Drillers scored 7 runs in the 3rd to take the lead for good. Lijewski had 2 hits & 3 RBIs. Skinner added 2 hits & 2 RBIs. Hibben had 2 hits & 2 RBIs for Torrington.

Final Score: Lovell Mustangs 9 Evanston Outlaws 5 - Outlaws are eliminated - Down 5-1, the Mustangs took the lead with 5 runs in the 5th and added 3 more in the 6th. Hedges had 1 hit & 3 RBIs. Newman added 3 hits & 2 runs scored.

Final Score: Powell Pioneers 17 Cody Cubs 2 - the Pioneers took control with a 5-run 2nd and added 11 runs in the 4th and 5th innings. Stenerson had a 3-run HR and Queen a solo HR. Queen had 4 hits & 3 RBIs. Gibson added 3 hits (2-2B) & 3 RBIs.

Tuesday, July 30:

Pairings for these two games will not match previous opponents against each other unless absolutely necessary. Cody and Casper have already played and so have Powell and Lovell. These games will mix the opponents.

Final Score: Cody Cubs 4 Lovell Mustangs 3 - Mustangs are eliminated - the Cubs rallied from an early 3-0 deficit and won it on an RBI single from K. Phillips in the bottom of the 7th. Bailey added 1 hit & 1 RBI for the Cubs. Wassmer had 2 hits & 2 RBIs for the Mustangs. Cody advances to championship day, Wednesday.

Final Score: Powell Pioneers 10 Casper Drillers 0 - Greenwald tosses a 4-hit shutout on the mound for Powell. Fauskee had 2 hits (3B) & 4 RBIs. Pioneers scored 10 runs in the 2nd, 3rd, & 4th innings.

(Note: If 3 teams remain with one loss after Game 13, the winner of Game 11 will automatically be drawn into Game 14)

Wednesday, July 31:

Final Score: Powell Pioneers 5 Cody Cubs 4 [State Championship] - the Pioneers rallied from a 4-2 deficit after five innings. They tied it with 2 runs in the 6th on a hit batter and fielder's choice. In the top of the 8th, Stenerson hit the go-ahead RBI double. Brock Johnson allowed 1 walk and struck out 3 batters for the win in relief. Powell advances to the NWCART in Oregon.

The stage is set to see who advances to this year’s Northwest Class A Regional Tournament (NWCART) in Roseburg, OR from Aug. 7-11, 2024.
