Tornadoes and Severe Weather Slam Colorado on May 18

On Sunday, May 18th severe weather roared across Colorado, leaving destruction in its path. In Northern Colorado hail, rain, and wind kept us company in the late afternoon.

Tornadoes Touch Down in Multiple Colorado Counties

Tornadoes also touched down in parts of the state.

The National Weather Service issued tornado warnings for around 2:00 PM on Sunday in areas outside of Denver. According to a report from Denver 7, tornadoes were spotted in three Colorado counties; Adams, Arapahoe, and Elbert.

Adams County Reports Major Tornado Damage

In the same report, Adams County officials confirmed that seventeen houses or structures were destroyed or damaged following the storm.

To top it all off, power in the area is out for the time being.

Elbert and Arapahoe Counties Also Affected

In Elbert County, officials confirmed that nineteen homes were damaged or destroyed.

Luckily, there seems to be no significant damage to any structures in Arapahoe County.

Tornado Outbreak Impacts Multiple States Across the Plains

The Centennial State was not alone in dealing with these dangerous events, according to the New York Times.

20 Tornadoes Reported Across Colorado, Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska

Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma, and Nebraska were all in the thick of multiple tornado reports as well.

Twenty tornadoes were reported between the five states (Colorado included).

Denver International Airport Hit Hard by Tornado Disruptions

This tornado terror was taken to a whole new level for those traveling through the Denver International Airport.

Thousands of travelers experienced issues with delays or cancellations out of DIA due to the storm, according to the Denver Post.

Over 1,000 Flights Delayed and Dozens Canceled

Twenty-four flights going in and out of Denver were canceled and 1,039 were delayed on Sunday, according to the official findings of FlightAware.

Some travelers were in the sky when the twister touched down in Denver. Luckily, no injuries were reported.

One woman traveling through the Colorado airport captured a video from up in the air. It is absolutely terrifying how close they were to the storm.

The view from down below is startling as well.
