I don't think many kids' Halloween movies can compare to 'It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.' It has everything - humor, costumes, jack-o-lanterns, and - of course - Halloween candy. Who can forget the Peanuts gang comparing treats as they went door-to-door...and poor Charlie getting stuck with rocks? It's a timeless classic that perfectly captures American Halloween traditions.

There are countless Halloween traditions upheld by children generation after generation. Children have donned costumes and gone door-to-door for sweets for centuries.

DID YOU KNOW? Irish immigrants played a role in creating the U.S. version of Halloween we know today. They brought over traditions like carving turnips and dressing up to go door-to-door asking for treats (called 'souling' and 'guising' in the Old World) which would evolve into modern practices of carving pumpkins and trick-or-treating.

But when I was a kid, the best tradition of Halloween happened after the trick-or-treating, when my friends and I would circle around with hot cocoa in hand and start bartering.

'Two reeses for a Snickers bar,'

'Five double bubbles for a Blow Pop,'

'All my taffy for your Tootsie Rolls.'

We ran our negotiations like a sugar-coated day on Wall Street. We all had our favorite candies, and there were usually one or two we all agreed on. The star of the show - the most hotly bartered item - was almost always Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.

Apparently, the love of chocolatey-peanut butter goodness is a thing across the Cowboy State because, according to candy.com, Reese's is Wyoming's favorite Halloween candy in 2023.

Ranking Wyoming's Favorite Halloween Candies in 2023

Candystore.com surveyed folks across the country to discover each state's favorite Halloween candies. Wyoming's faves ranked as follows:

  1. Reese's Peanut Butter Cups - I 100% agree with this decision, btw. Reese's is a favorite across the country and this year's Most Popular Halloween candy in the U.S.
  2. Salt Water Taffy - I can't say I've ever gotten salt water taffy in my trick-or-treat basket... but I wouldn't have complained if I did.
  3. Dubble Bubble Gum - This one I 100% disagree with. The flavor lasts for about 30 seconds, and then the gum turns hard as a rock. I'd take Circus Peanuts over Dubble Bubble.
