The 2025 session of the Wyoming Legislature is officially underway.

The session convened today at noon. Governor Mark Gordon is slated to give his annual "State of the State" address on Wednesday morning at 10. After that, lawmakers will get down to work on a roughly two-month General Session.

So what is the biggest issue you want to see lawmakers tackle this session?

Hundreds Of Bills Expected To Be Filed

Senators have until Jan. 29 to file bills, while the deadline for filing bills in the Wyoming House is Feb. 3. Some reports indicate as many as 600 bills may be filed ahead of those deadlines.

High residential property taxes generated a lot of discussion in 2024 and are expected to be a major topic again this session. Several bills dealing with property taxes either have already been introduced or are expected to be filed. So is that the biggest single issue?

Somewhat related to high taxes is the idea of cutting spending. After all, if the state isn't spending as much, it wouldn't need to take in as much money in taxes. Some people think state government wastes a lot of money and that we need to "trim the fat."

Do you agree?

Lawmakers in 2024 passed a bill that would have eliminated most gun free zones in Wyoming, including in governmental meetings and schools. Governor Mark Gordon vetoed that bill, but a similar bill is back in 2025.

Gun rights are always a hot topic in Wyoming. Is that your biggest concern?

Then there are bills dealing with illegal immigration, specifically targeting the idea of sanctuary cities. Making sure non-citizens are not able to vote in Wyoming is another topic of discussion.

There are also bills targeting transgender access to women's restrooms, locker rooms and women's sports.

And bills dealing with cell phones in schools and other education-related topics.

So what do you think the biggest single issue is? Take our poll and give us your opinion!
