Ultra-Uber-Wealthy Escaped To Wyoming From Blue States
America’s wealthiest community isn’t New York or San Francisco — it’s Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Beyond hosting Fed Chair Jay Powell and central bankers from around the world once a year, Teton County has become a haven for billionaires, who are lured by natural beauty, tax advantages, and cowboy culture.
But rising real estate prices and deep inequality now test whether this community can preserve its traditions and spirit.
The video below is from Bloomberg News. The explorer, the once impoverished town is now the richest in the nation, by far. They also explore why it is so.
Much of what you'll hear in this Bloomberg story you already know. The attraction for the ultra-wealthy is not just the view. Wyoming has some of the lowest property taxes, along with low regulation and no state income tax.
But the rest of Wyoming shares these advantages. Why do so many ultra-uber-rich move to Jackson?
That view has a lot to do with it. Its proximity to Yellowstone helps. The cowboy culture has attracted many. Those rich folks have had enough of those big cities and love the small-town feel that Jackson still has.
Jackson Hole does have its problems. The town has become so expensive that local workers can't afford to live there. The town has been working to solve that problem with affordable housing ideas. They have a long way to go to fix the issue.
Jackson has become so rich that what was once a joke has become true. The billionaires are pushing out the millionaires.
