Jay Em Wyoming, A Hidden Town Frozen In Time
When I mention the town of Jay Em, most people are confused by the name. It just doesn't sound right.
The town was named after the J M brand (spelled out as "Jay Em") used by the rancher and cattleman James L. "Jim" Moore. Established between 1912 and 1915 by Lake Harris, the town served as a service hub for the surrounding ranching community, formally recognizing the name when the post office was established in 1915.
Jay Em is an unincorporated community in Niobrara County with a very small population, estimated at approximately 55 people.
