Who Owns The Most Land In Wyoming?
There are some big ranches in Wyoming. REALLY BIG. Have you ever wondered who owns the most land in the Cowboy State? I mean, besides the Federal Government, land in Wyoming is mostly owned by private owners and ranches.
The U.S. government owns nearly half of the state, with the Bureau of Land Management managing 18.3 million acres. The rest is mostly owned by private owners and ranches.
Wyoming's top private owner is is Chris Robinson with 916,000+ acres. The second biggest land owner in the state goes to Stan Kroenke with Q Creek Ranch at roughly 560,000 acres. And Wyoming's third biggest landowner is Wagonhound Land and Livestock with roughly 300,000 acres.
Other landowners worth mentioning include the Broadbent family in southwest Wyoming and Bill Gates, who owns the 300,000-acre Irma Lake Lodge ranch.
Some of the biggest landowners in the USA are here in Wyoming.
According to Argi Marketing, the Land Report 100 research team analyzes transactions and scours records to determine America's leading landowners. That's how we broke the news in 2020 that Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates was America's largest farmland owner with more than 260,000 acres across the United States, including Wyoming.
Wyoming's largest ranch is Pathfinder Ranches.
The Pathfinder Ranches are an enormous 916,076-acre grazing empire spanning Natrona, Carbon, Sweetwater, and Fremont counties. Larger than the entire state of Rhode Island, this property was acquired in early 2026 by the Robinson family of Utah.
