The Laramie County Sheriff's Office will join other local law enforcement agencies in collecting unused and unwanted prescription and over-the-counter drugs on Saturday, Oct. 26.

Deputies will be at the Safeway at 700 S. Greeley Highway and Laramie County Fire District #2 at 5800 N. College Drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Sheriff's spokesman Brandon Warner says the purpose of the Take Back Day is to allow county residents to safely dispose of unused or unwanted prescription drugs in an environmentally safe manner, and keep those drugs out of the hands of unauthorized people or juveniles.

Warner says no illegal drugs, sharps, thermometers, oxygen containers, radioactive materials, pressurized canisters or chemotherapy drugs will be accepted.

The Sheriff's Office has taken in over 2,300 pounds of unused and unwanted drugs since the program's inception roughly a decade ago.
