Laramie’s Tayton Moore Tosses a Perfect Game in Rangers 7th Win in a Row
It’s a day that Tayton Moore will not forget. He accomplished a rare feat in the Laramie Rangers 8-0 win over Jefferson Academy on Friday in Cheyenne.
Moore faced 18 batters and retired all 18. That’s no runs, no hits, and no walks. It was a Perfect Game!
What was his reaction? He couldn’t imagine that.
“No, not at all. That was something.”
What was working?
“My fastball and slider. Later in the game, I threw a couple of curveballs that just didn’t feel right, so I told (Coach) Conrad (Chavez), I don’t know about the curve ball anymore. He thought about working in some change-ups to get a different speed in there, and at first, I was a little leery, but after that, I kind of settled in and threw it a few more times.”
Moore finished with six strikeouts and tossed only 59 pitches in his outing.
“Never did I think that I’d come out today and throw a perfect game. Until the other did, I didn’t even know I was pitching today. Just to come out, throw strikes for everybody around me, and have my team back me up, it was pretty awesome.”
The Rangers backed Moore as the game went along. They took a 1-0 lead in the first after Ben Malone’s double. He went to third on a ground-out and then came home on a double steal.
It remained 1-0 until the fifth inning. Laramie scored twice on an RBI double by Brandon Chavez and an RBI single by Griffin Webb that made it 3-0.
The Rangers broke it open in the sixth with five runs on four hits. All the damage was done with two outs. Malone, Diego Herrera, and Moore had RBI singles. Webb added a two-run single for an 8-0 lead.
Moore finished off the Jaguars in the bottom of the sixth and the game was called.
Webb had two hits and three RBIs to lead the offense. Moore produced two hits and drove in one, along with Malone.
That marked the Rangers’ seventh straight win on the season. Their record improved to 21-20.
They will play their final two pool play games today in Cheyenne at the Post 6 Firecracker Tournament. Laramie takes on the Rocky Mountain Oysters (CO) and Greeley GOJO’s (CO) in games at 1 and 3:30 p.m.
