Wyoming Public Media’s Subtle Bias News Manipulation
(OPINION).
Once again, Wyoming Public Media shows its bias, and why folks across the Cowboy State had no problem canceling the network's taxpayer subsidies.
Let's start with the headline of a recent story they published on their website:
Despite threats of immigration enforcement, one Wyoming city is celebrating its diverse culture. (Story).
The article goes on to describe several new restaurants and shops in Rock Springs, Wyoming, that are owned by people of Mexican descent.
That’s in part thanks to grant funding from the state business council and national organization Main Street America, which helps revitalize downtowns. The organization is partnered with almost 90 places in the Mountain West, eight of which are in Wyoming.
Way deep down into the story, the author finally gets to the point about ICE agents being bad for business.
Let's start by correcting the headline of this story. Once again, Public Broadcasting leaves out the word "ILLEGAL" when talking about immigration.
Nobody in Wyoming or the rest of the nation has a problem with immigration. But it needs to be done through a legal process in the same way that every other nation on the planet does it.
Visiting any town in America that has a cultural diversity of shops and restaurants is always fun and welcome. America loves Mexican food and shops, as well as Chinatown or maybe a Little Italy, just to name a few.
We just want to know that the folks from these other cultures are in this country legally.
Anyone who sneaked into America, around the laws that every nation has, has committed a crime which is punishable by jail, fines, and finally deportation. Even a first-time offense, which is classified as a misdemeanor, is still a crime.
This is not the first time Wyoming media outlets have attempted this kind of subtle manipulation
Sometimes, media outlets that claim to report unbiased news show their bias by shoving it right in your face.
In most cases, they try to hide it. But their bias is revealed by what they omit.
Both Wyoming Public Media and WyoFile recently posted articles pushing the same narrative as other leftist media outlets across the nation by omitting key words.
Below is an example from Wyoming Public Media:
It’s been just under six months since Donald Trump returned to the White House, and with it, the president’s much-anticipated crackdown on immigration. (WPM).
That sentence is an outright lie because they left out one word.
ILLEGAL!
President Trump has not cracked down on immigration, as the story claims. He is cracking down on illegal immigration. There is an important difference.
WyoFile did the same thing in one of their most recent stories.
Immigration arrests have quadrupled in Colorado and almost tripled in Wyoming since President Donald Trump took office in January with a significant shift in who is being targeted, new data from the federal government shows. (WyoFile).
WRONG - Illegal immigration arrests have quadrupled.
Nobody is arresting and deporting immigrants. We are a nation of immigrants, and Americans are quick to welcome newcomers to this country, as long as they do it legally, rather than sneaking across our borders.
Both stories also try to make it sound like these are law-abiding citizens by saying that they have not committed any crimes.
Increasingly, ICE is arresting immigrants with no criminal history, the data shows. (WyoFile).
At least Wyoming Public Media is a bit more honest on this one.
Under both Trump terms, however, enforcement trends more visible and arrests target more than those with serious criminal backgrounds. (WPM).
The Trump administration indeed said they would deport "the worst first." In the process, those who are less criminally minded are swept up too.
But let's also keep in mind that crossing into this country, and any other country on the planet, without vetting and permission, is a crime.
The punishment for that crime is deportation.
That law exists in America and every other nation on planet Earth, and for good reasons.
