GET READY - A new blend of Chugwater Chili spices has been announced.

Founded in 1986, Chugwater Chili originated when five Wyoming ranch families purchased an award-winning state championship recipe to boost local economic development.

Based in Chugwater, Wyoming, the company produces a popular, balanced spice blend and sponsors the annual Chugwater Chili Cook-Off. The brand has grown into a well-known global brand, offering a range of seasonings beyond the original chili mix.

What do you think it might be?

That would be TODAY - the day that I am writing this article. I'll be driving through Chugwater, so I might just stop in and see what they have done.

You can stop in, too. Their humble little store and shop are open to the public in Chugwater, Wyoming.

1986 Founding: The Chugwater Chili Corporation was formed in June 1986 by local families to create jobs and support the town, operating initially from a ranch bunkhouse and home office.

Their signature, award-winning seasoning recipe was purchased from a Cheyenne cook, Dave Cameron.

The first Chugwater Chili Cook-Off was held in 1986. It has since become a major annual event that brings thousands to the town and serves as a significant fundraiser.

The company expanded to offer more than just chili seasoning, including dips, dressings, red pepper jelly, and steak rubs. Karen Guidice later took over as owner.

The town's name, and thus the chili, is derived from an old Indian legend about driving buffalo off nearby cliffs, where the sound of them hitting the water was described as a "chug".

The company, currently headquartered at 210 1st Street in Chugwater, still promotes itself through local, in-person engagement while selling products globally.
