One of the most beautiful sights in all of North America is Jackson Hole Wyoming. Seeing it from the air is a special treat.

In the view below, you'll get to see what it looks like from a pilot's point of view as they talk to approach control and the tower on the way over the Absaroka Range and make a left turn down into the valley with a wonderful view of the Tetons.

Pilots approaching Jackson Hole Airport (KJAC) navigate a challenging, high-altitude environment with steep terrain, often requiring precise Runway 19 approaches. The airport, surrounded by Grand Teton National Park, features a 6,300-foot runway at 6,451 ft elevation, requiring careful density altitude checks, with Runway 01 being the preferred arrival direction.

You'll hear these pilots comment several times about how amazing the view is.

Before they can see the mountains, they have to dip through the clouds. Not to worry. They knew the altitude of the highest peaks and how high they are. Plus, you'll see their moving map displays helping them with the route. The voice from air traffic control also advises them.

The runway at Jackson is considered just a tad short for planes like these. They can handle it, but you'll see the pilots use all of it to slow down and stop.

Pilots flying in must be aware of the following:

Terrain & Turbulence: High terrain causes potential for moderate to severe turbulence and wind shear from the Teton Range.

Night Operations: A runway centerline lighting system (RCLS) helps mitigate the "black hole effect".

Noise Restrictions: Stage 2 aircraft are prohibited, and there is a 92dBa single-event noise limit.

Wildlife: Pilots must be alert for wildlife on the runway.

Local Pilots Give Wyoming Kids A Free Flight

Does your kid want to be a pilot?

There is no way of knowing unless they get a chance to get in an airplane and get up there.

Thanks to a Wyoming chapter of EAA, (Experimental Aircraft Association), kids in Wheatland Wyoming got that chance this past weekend.

Local pilots offered free rides to all kids, breakfast included.

The hope is that maybe some of these kids will get that urge to want to fly and pursue a career as a pilot.

America needs more pilots.
