An order requiring most people over the age of 10 to wear a face-covering in public buildings went into effect on Monday in Fort Collins, according to a post on the City of Fort Collins Facebook page.

There are several exemptions to the requirement, including children in a childcare facility, people working in an area that does not require face-to-face interactions with others, people who can't wear a facemask for medical reasons, and other exceptions.

People who violate the rule can be charged with misdemeanor although the Chief of the Fort Collins Police Department says in another Facebook post that ''education is the preferred and often effective solution."

People can report violations of the face-mask order over the phone or online. You can read more about the face-covering order here.
