It was not long ago that 8 Wyoming newspapers, owned by one out-of-state company, shut down, literally overnight.

Thanks to the efforts of a newspaper publishing company out of Buffalo, Wyoming, those papers were purchased and saved.

Out of this, something new is on the horizon.

A new weekly Wyoming newspaper is in the works, started, in part, by a reporter from one of the old newspapers, The Platte Country Record Times.

Newspaper reporter Marie Hamilton has posted the following on her Facebook page.

Now I can make the official announcement:

I have left the PCRT. (Platte County Record Times).

After thoughtful consideration and recent events, I learned that I had more in me than I ever realized I did.

With the backing of investors and citizens in southeast Wyoming -- we have launched a new news source for Southeast Wyoming called:
The Southeast Wyoming Sentinel

Although we can't give public information to some more sensitive business information, we have purchased the rights to "dead" newspapers to resurrect them to continue to provide a print, digital, and other platforms.

Their time is now filled with board meetings and website designs. Local newspapers are usually published weekly with an online presence to accompany it.

This is an attempt by locals in Platte County to truly have a news source that they can call their own, run locally by people in the community.

Meetings are continuing in Chugwater, Wyoming, as the first publication date draws near.

I will invite Marie Hamilton to come on Wyoming's morning radio talk show, Wake Up Wyoming, to talk about this new community venture.

Reading The Past - Chugwater Wyoming Newspaper

These pages of the old Chugwter Wyoming newspaper show us coverage of the region from back in the 1940s.

There was little local news, other than the war.

But what was published at the time was important to the people of the area.

It was, in most case, the only news they had from outside their little ranch or town.
