The winter of 2025/26 was a warm and dry one for Wyoming. That is rare but not unusual. It's all a matter of where the high and low pressure systems park themselves and bend the jet stream, allowing winter to flow down from Canada, bending the jet stream around us, causing winter to miss the western states.

Here we are in April, and so far it has been a typical spring for the Cowboy State. That snowstorm that some of that state was hammered with last week is something that we all come to expect this time of year. You can expect more of that as we move through the season.

This week will not be a drought buster, but any wet is good. Here is what the forecast looks like for the second week of April 2026.

For this week, watch for cool temperatures and the occasional bout of wet weather, even some snow here and there. But in patches. The real wet does not come until this weekend, when we get more of the same but in higher volume.

Spring is the wettest time of the year for states like Wyoming. We have a long way to go in order to catch up to the drought caused by this winter. We might not do that this season, but at least we won't have continued drought conditions in the short term.

Watch for those passing showers and maybe a cool snap from Canada now and then.

The weather always varies from year to year. There is always a large variability from year to year and even from decade to decade. The best we can hope for is that we get enough rain and snow to suit our needs. But there is no such thing as how it is supposed to be.

Medicine Bow Wyoming Road Art

There’s a strange mind at work in Medicine Bow. Someone equal parts disturbed and delighted, scheming and laughing at the same time. And somehow, they want to pull you into the fun.
