Looking for an unusual place to camp this summer? Have you thought about staying in a Wyoming fire tower? Did you know that you could rent one?

Perched atop a forested mountain, Spruce Mountain Fire Lookout Tower offers visitors a unique lodging experience in Medicine Bow National Forest in southcentral Wyoming.

The original fire lookout was constructed during the summer of 1938 by workers employed through the New Deal's Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC).

The lookout is typically open from June through September. Guests can drive directly to the lookout most of the season. Several amenities are provided, but guests should be prepared to pack in some of their own supplies and gear for a comfortable stay.

Perched atop a forested mountain, the historic Sheep Mountain Fire Lookout offers a unique recreation experience -- one of few fire lookouts in the region available for overnight rental. Constructed in 1950 by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) atop Sheep Mountain at an elevation of 9,600 feet, the lookout was historically occupied as a fire lookout until the early 1970s.

The lookout is available for rental from June 15 through October 20.

Why just camp when you can hike high up to some of the best views that Wyoming has to offer and spend a few nights? You'll love the wrap-around porches. If you think day viewing is nice, wait until you see the stars at night. These are dark sky areas.

No worries about animals, bears, mountain lions, and other such dangerous creatures are far below the tower.

Jay Em, Wyoming, Frozen In Time

Jay Em, what an unusual name for a town. The few people who live there are proud of what their spot on earth once was, and they work to preserve it. They keep this little community frozen in time.
