Each year the Wyoming legislators, along with a few other states, talk about legislation to get rid of this annoying time change. Each year they get a step closer to ending it, but we never quite get there.

The theory as to why we have DST goes back to something about saving energy.

“Fast Time” as it was first introduced in the United States in 1918 was signed into law by President Woodrow Wilson in order to support World War I. 7 months later it was repealed by the majority of the states.

President Franklin D. Roosevelt instituted year-round “War Time” in 1942. Once again the idea was to save energy.

In 1966 Congress passed the Uniform Time Act establishing uniform times for starting and ending “War Time” or DST.

But then in 1974 and 1975, President Richard Nixon signed into law the Emergency Daylight Saving Time Energy Conservation Act. Once again the theory was that this would save energy.

World wide 70 countries take part in changing clocks twice a year, recognizing some form of daylight saving time. But since not every country does it, what sense does it make?

It would make more sense if everyone across the world just dropped it. Actually, I have an even better idea.

Zulu Time is used by the military and both professional and private pilots. it is a 24-hour clock, not the 12-hour clock you are using now. There is no daylight saving time with Zulu Time. There are also no time zones.  The entire planet is on one clock. That means when it is 3pm in Wyoming it is also 3pm in Australia. It would take some adjustment, at first, to not have lunch at 12pm, but you'll get over that and eat when the time is right. Getting rid of time changes and time zones would make the world a whole lot less confusing.
