This Ugly 1985 Casper Cop Car Was Deceptively Fast
A Facebook page called Underwhelming Cars recently posted a photo of a Casper Wyoming police car from "back in the day."
This leads us to ask the question,
WHAT THE HELL IS THE PIECE OF CRAP?
And the obvious follow-up questions:
Could the cops actually catch somebody in this thing?
So was that junky-looking car in the first photo worth it?
According to comments on the Facebook page, IT WAS!
There were a ton of comments with this story and you can read them at this link.
Apparently, this was a beast of a vehicle that worked well in the winter and would win out in a chase.
I guess we should not judge a car by its body.
Today's officers have much cooler-looking rides.
This was not the only type of car that the Casper Police Department had back then.
A little digging revealed this,
Sentimental Saturday - Officer Brian Platt (Sergeant) stands next to his newly assigned patrol vehicle.
Sergeant Platt started with the CPD on March 4, 1985 and on December 1, 2003 he passed away after a long courageous battle with cancer.
Sergeant Platt had a couple of nicknames during his career which were “The Jackhammer of Justice” and “The Hardest Working Man in Law Enforcement”.
You are missed, Sergeant Platt! Picture courtesy of Casper Star Tribune Collection, Casper College Western History Center.
That car looks like it could do something.
But the uglier one was faster.
