WARNING: Sucky Wyoming Driving Conditions This Weekend
You've been hearing about it for over a week.
Here comes that Arctic weather forecasters have been warning us about, right on schedule.
The Wyoming Department Of Transportation (WYDOT) has released a video explaining the expected road hazards.
There will be snow. But not a lot.
HOWEVER! It's the way the snow arrives, along with the extreme cold that creates the problems.
Watch the WYDOT video, below.
Just because we don't have a lot of snow doesn't mean that driving conditions won't suck.
A cold front moving in means lots of wind.
Friday begins with a high blowover risk for trucks, mostly in the southern part of the state.
The first round of snow will hit the warmer roads and turn to liquid.
Then, it flash freezes overnight with sub-zero temperatures.
More snow layers on top of that will create roads that will be literally slicker than snot.
That snow will be the light and fluffy kind which is easy for winds to move around.
More colder air will then come blowing in leading to slick roads, a blowover risk, drifting snow, and poor visibility.
By Saturday the winds will calm down. But it's not over.
As we move through the weekend we can expect a hard freeze of subzero temperatures and black ice.
If you are driving anywhere, especially for long distances, be sure to bring the supplies you might need if you break down.
With temperatures as cold as they will be for the weekend and into next week you'll want to keep warm if you get stuck.
