WATCH: Angry Citizen Shuts Down Wyoming School Board Meeting
Will Wyoming schools have mask requirements for the upcoming school year? What about social distancing and vaccines?
These things were being discussed at the August 2nd, 2021, Laramie County School District #1 Board of Trustees.
But the meeting was suspended after an angry citizen ran the clock out on his time and refused to walk away from the mic. The mic was shut off and, in the video below, you can see school board members getting up and walking out of the room as he continues to talk.
This occurred during the public comment period where each citizen gets 3 minutes to address the board.
“The Board recognizes the value of public comment on issues related to the operation of schools. To ensure this meeting is conducted in an orderly manner we ask that you address the Board directly,” Board Chairperson Rose Ann Million Rinne said. (Cap City News).
Rinne cited Wyoming statute 16-4-406 which established procedures if a meeting is disrupted.
The idea is that, if you have a beef with the board, you are welcome to come to state it. But speakers must be respectful and stay within the time limit. Staying in the time assures enough time for other people to speak. If someone is out time, out of line, or disruptive the board will end the meeting and walk away, which is exactly what they did.
The man who caused the board to end the meeting can be seen at the end of the YouTube video, below. There is a speaker who was up before him who said very much the same things but he did it in such a way that he was not cut off.
