Here comes that April winter blast you were told about for Wyoming and other Western states. Now that we are close to the actual event, forecasters have a better idea of how this will play out.

Thursday begins nicely enough for the entire Cowboy state, then a fast-moving cold front races across the Western states.

Snow wind will impact Wyoming from late Thursday, April 16, 2026, through the weekend. Temperatures will drop from the 70s into the teens to 30s°F.

Expect travel hazards across the usual areas, especially Interstate 80.

The good news is that Wyoming's mountains will get some much-needed snow. Lower areas will get the wet dusting they have been needing. While this is not a drought bust, we do need any wet we can get.

We will recover from this quickly with a sunny and warmer Saturday and a much sunnier and warmer Sunday.

There is a possibility of a repeat of this storm next week. Though don't lay money on it yet. Forecasters are watching a similar set up for another round of wind and snow late next week, but it all depends on which direction a single low-pressure system takes.

If the low heads more to the north, then it will only graze Wyoming. If it heads south or splits, then we could see another round of wind and snow, much like we will get this week.

Do not trust any weather forecast past 3 days at this point. Spring is often too complicated to make predictions that far out.
