China Won’t Sell TikTok To Wyoming Company

The problem is that TikTok, the most widely used social media app on the planet, is owned by China.

China has been accused of data mining its users and perhaps our government.

President Trump wants TikTok to sell its American version of the app to someone in America, or shut it down.

Enter Reid Rasner of Wyoming, who has gathered investors to purchase the American version of TikTok.

But it looks like China is not willing to sell.

Reid Rasner called me on Wyoming's morning talk radio show to explain. You can listen to that conversation below.

TikTok Update, Reid Rasner explains:

I need to make sure the people of Wyoming understand—I pushed as hard as I possibly could. I pursued every angle, every relationship, and every opportunity to bring this deal home. But at the end of the day, the Chinese government won’t budge.

This is not a failure.

This is just the beginning! Big things are happening and I have started a conversation.

Now it’s time for me to lead the way in Wyoming.

As of right now, ByteDance has made it clear they are not selling. Instead, they’ve announced plans to launch a brand-new company and a new app on September 5th.

The current version of TikTok will go dark in March 2026.

Here’s the bottom line: No one—myself included—is able to buy TikTok or the algorithm. And without the algorithm, there is no deal. (Reid Rasner).

 

So, what now?

If China closes down the American version of TikTok only to open another version of it, it would still be owned by China.

What is Mr. Rasner's new idea?

We will all have to wait and see.
