
Why Megan Degenfelder Is Running For Gov’ Of Wyoming
Wyoming's current Superintendent of Public Instruction is now running for Governor. Megan Degenfelder stepped into the studio with Wyoming's radio talk show host Glenn Woods to explain why she wants the state's highest office and why she thinks she is the choice.
Megan Degenfelder was elected Wyoming’s State Superintendent of Public Instruction in 2022, becoming one of the youngest statewide officials in Wyoming history. A sixth-generation Wyoming ranch kid from Casper with years of private-sector experience in coal, oil, and gas.

Megan is a graduate of the University of Wyoming, earning bachelor’s degrees in economics and political science. During her time at UW, she served as student body president, the captain of the women’s rugby team, and graduated as the top female student. She later earned a master’s degree in economics from the University of International Business and Economics in Beijing. Megan wrote her thesis on the elasticity of demand between coal and natural gas.
After her schooling, Megan spent nearly a decade working in the coal, oil, and gas industries. She worked for one of the nation’s leading coal producers in Campbell, Converse, and Sheridan Counties and then for an oil and gas producer in Carbon and Sweetwater Counties. In her roles in government and regulatory affairs, she fought back against the Obama and Biden Administrations and worked to lessen regulatory burdens on the state’s fossil fuel industry.
Megan is a lifelong hunter and outdoorswoman. She was part of the first all-women’s team at the One Shot Antelope Hunt, has won multiple shooting competitions at the Cheyenne Trap and Skeet Club, and served on the Board of the Wyoming Women’s Antelope Hunt.
Outside of her work in education, she coaches the University of Wyoming women’s rugby team, fosters rescue dogs, volunteers in her church, and is a cancer survivor.
Megan and her husband, Dr. Bryan Dugas live with their three beloved rescue dogs – Loretta Lynn, Patsy, and Dolly.
