Last weekend, I was standing at the grave of one of Wyoming's most famous governors, Nellie Davis Tayloe Ross—America's first woman governor.

It suddenly struck me that this was the grave of two governors, because her husband, buried beside her, was the governor she replaced.

To my right, as I looked at the stone, was a tall obelisk that was the grave marker of another governor. So I began to wonder how many governors were buried in this graveyard.

Wyoming has had 33 state governors since it was admitted to the Union on July 10, 1890, until 2026.

There are 9 former Wyoming governors buried at Lakeview Cemetery in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

So, I wondered, how do I find the rest of them?

Records for Lakeview Cemetery in Cheyenne can be found in the official city resources and online databases. Try this link. Type in the name and see who you can find. That handy website will give the plot number, a map with directions, and a photo of what the grave looks like.
