We knew this was coming.

Winter weather is hitting hard in the northern and western regions of Wyoming through Tuesday night.

Gillette, Buffalo, and Sheridan, on the East side of the Bighorns, will see heavy snow.

Expect more impact as the night goes on including all the down to Interstate 80, West of Laramie.

A wider view of the WYDOT MAP shows other impacted areas that are not yet close but might, overnight, as the snow continues to fall.

As this story was being written there was an update from WYDOT.

Update: In addition to I-90 Sheridan/Buffalo we have closed US 16 Buffalo to Ucross and US14/16 Ucross to the Campbell County line.

Some of Wyoming is in for some major snow impact on Tuesday.

Below is a statement from the Wyoming National Weather Service Office in Cheyenne.

After a calm night, weather conditions will change rather quickly Tuesday, as a cold front sweeps through the area causing rain to change to snow by Tuesday evening.

The highest snowfall amounts will be found mainly west of the I-25 corridor where Winter Weather Advisories and Warnings are in effect.

Snowfall amounts will generally range from 2 to 5 inches with up to a foot in the mountains.

East of the I-25 corridor we are looking at the potential for 2 to 4 inches along the Pine Ridge from Chadron to Lusk and the Cheyenne Ridge from near Kimball to just north of Cheyenne.

Otherwise, amounts will generally be less than two inches.

Road impacts will be the worst in those areas that experience higher winds.

Keep an eye on the WYDOT Road Conditions Website for the latest road conditions in your area.

That will make for some lousy driving in some areas.

What we are experiencing are two fast-moving Pacific storms.

The winds will be a little lower than Sunday and Monday, but will still be strong enough to close some highways to high-profile vehicles.

Below is the National Weather Service snow prediction for Tuesday.

Everybody in Wyoming will get some snow on Tuesday.

How much just depends on which part of the state you are in.

Expect the heaviest to fall on the Western side.

We'll get some more snow over the weekend.

That's good news for the mountain snowpack, which we need.

You'll be happy to hear that the temperatures and wind will calm significantly for the rest of the week.

But that does not mean perfect.

This is still March.

Expect light snow showers now and again with some brisk winds, though not as windy as last summer.

You know how Wyoming is.

Don't like the weather, wait 5 minuets.

WAIT - want some good weather news?

Next week is forecasted to be mild and nice.

Imagine that, an entire week of cool, but not cold temperatures and partly cloudy skies.

That's not the end of it.

This is the time of year when anything can happen and we are still waiting for that one big bad winter storm to come our way.

It's coming.

We just don't know exactly when - yet.
