Wyoming is no longer the nation's windiest state.

Maybe this is a title that Wyoming is willing to give up.

We were beaten by South Dakota.

ACTUALLY - there are two states more windy than Wyoming.

WOW - we are really slipping.

MAYBE! - Wyoming and regional weatherman Don Day called those numbers "Suspect."

World Population Review recorded the wind and gusts over the last 12 months.

Wyoming’s average wind speed was calculated at 20.9 mph.

That's average, and not including gusts.

Montana came in at 21 mph. That's only a .1 difference. But there you have it.

South Dakota was a bit higher at 21.3 mph. That's a little better, but still not a huge difference

I'm sure we can make that up next year.

Idaho and Colorado made the top five windiest places in the United States.

BUT - Wyoming still comes in on the top for highest gusts.

Wyoming's gusts are so bad that we top the nation for tipovers on our highways.

Wyoming experiences the most blow-over crashes on its highways, particularly on Interstates 25 and 80, due to frequent strong winds, especially during winter months.

It can get so bad that at times the state closes down those highways to high-profile vehicles.

Overturn/Rollover crashes that occur during a severe wind weather event are a common problem on Wyoming highways.

In Wyoming, during the most recent five-year period (2016-2020), 568 blow-over crashes were reported, averaging around 114 blow-over crashes per year.

These blow-over crashes included 16 critical crashes, 148 serious crashes, and 404 damage crashes and resulted in 1 fatal injury, 16 suspects. (WYDOT).

That's another record we would not mind losing to another state.
