A new bill for repealing Wyoming’s carbon capture laws passed out of a House committee and is on its way to the floor for debate.

From the House Minerals, Business and Economic Development Committee comes HB 209, Reliable and dispatchable low-carbon standards-repeal.

At first, this bill appeared to be dead. But things like this have a way of coming back.

The reason given was the burden placed on energy providers by carbon sequestration and the rising cost it brought to consumers.

“It’s time that we take off the repeals and unleash those energy sources from having to be mandated for our power plants,” Rep. Chris Knapp (R-Gillette).

The bill passed 7-0. Two were excused.

Bills like this might be easier to pass with the new Trump administration.

President Trump has already signaled that over 1000 EPA bureaucrats will be let go.

Maybe more.

There will be a review under Trump of the EPA rules holding energy development back.

This could end several carbon sequestration projects in places like Campbell County if changes are made by the Trump administration and those that might be made by the state of Wyoming if HB 209 passes.

Those projects are currently mandated by the EPA and the state of Wyoming and mostly run off of Federal government subsidies.

Donald Trump had called for an end to "green" subsidies.

This Wyoming bill has a long way to go in a short period of time if it is to pass.

Changes made to the EPA by Trump are sure to be met with lawsuits.
