Why Do Wyoming Roads Need So Much Work?
Wyoming has two seasons: winter and road construction.
Welcome to fall.
Those thin little orange cones they put out on the road a few months back have grown into big fat barrels.
Road crews are now rushing to get down what they can before those brutal seasonal winds arrive.
Between the heat of summer and fall and winter weather, these guys are allowed to complain about the weather.
They have been working overtime this year.
We all know this to be true because of how often we have to slow down through construction zones.
WHICH DRIVES US NUTS!
We like our fast roads in Wyoming.
WE HATE SLOWING DOWN!
But we also hate those chewed-up roads.
It's such a nice feeling when we hit that smooth pavement on the interstate.
There is a good reason why our roads need so much work.
These are the best roads ever built in human history.
So, why are they always crumbling?
It's because we have massive vehicles rumbling across our state at high interstate speeds, 24/7.
Add to that the extreme changes in temperature and moisture.
Water gets into cracks in the pavement, freezes, expands, and makes bigger cracks.
Work crews will try to get as much in as they can before the weather changes which makes progress almost impossible.
Road work never really stops in Wyoming.
It goes on year-round.
But it does slow down a lot.
So here's to those crews who've been working in our towns, out in our counties, and on the interstates so we can enjoy a nice smooth, safe ride.
