Wyoming Is 3rd In Vehicles Owned Per Person
You've probably heard that Wyoming has more guns per capita than any other state. Actually, Wyoming comes in 2nd. Montana, Wyoming, and Alaska consistently lead the nation with over 60% of adults living in gun-owning households. Montana just beats Wyoming by .1%. Montana: 66.3%. Wyoming: 66.2%.
One study has Wyoming coming in 2nd in vehicles owned per person. But according to Grockipedia, Montana and South Dakota just barely beat Wyoming in vehicles owned per capita.
Americans own roughly 298 million vehicles, which adds up to about 875 vehicles per 1,000 people. Montana and Wyoming have the highest rates per capita, exceeding 1.5 vehicles per person.
Montana: 2,174 (2.17)
South Dakota: 1,518 (1.52)
Wyoming: 1,495 (1.50)
North Dakota: 1,357 (1.36)
These statistics are derived from annual vehicle registration data compiled by the Federal Highway Administration and population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau, typically expressed as vehicles per resident or per 1,000 residents. It does not include unregistered vehicles, which we know there are many of, both functioning and not.
These numbers make sense for rural states where people need to travel long distances for even the most basic things. City dwellers can take a bus or other public transportation, and many things in the biggest cities are within walking distance.
In states like Wyoming, people have different vehicles for different reasons. There is the highway car, for example, then the rugged work vehicle.
It will be no shock that the most popular vehicle in Wyoming is the Ford F-150. It can handle the state's rugged terrain, snowy winters, and rural highways. In general, pickup trucks and large SUVs are the top choices in the Cowboy State.
In fact, Wyoming has one of the highest concentrations of F-150 owners in the nation, making up over 7% of all used car sales in the state. The state's favorites are overwhelmingly dominated by tough, full-size trucks. According to Car Edge, the top five vehicles driven in Wyoming include:
Ford F-Series (including the F-250 and F-350 Super Duty)
RAM 1500
Chevrolet Silverado 1500
Toyota Tacoma
Toyota RAV4 (the most popular crossover/compact SUV in the state)
