I'm not trying to be cold-hearted when I say that this photo and video will become the most iconic Yellowstone bison toss in history.

Photographer Mike Macleod captured this video of this poor man being head-butted high into the air.

The bison was acting aggressively in a campground area. His rolling around in the dirt caught the attention of onlookers.

As you watch the video, you'll see an older man and a younger one, his grandson, who were walking by; then the commotion caught their attention. They stopped to take some pictures and shoot video.

You'll see a white pickup truck go by, and for a moment it looks like the bison was going after it. But as the pickup passed, the big guy went looking for another target.

It can honestly be said that the old man was not the cause of the bison's aggression, as some tourists are. He kept his distance, took his pictures, and moved on. The bison chased him down, nonetheless.

The old man tried running around a tree for cover, but, well, you can see that he lost that race.

In the news video below, you'll hear people yelling to watch out for the bison.

According to witnesses at the scene, bystanders waited until the bison was clear of the area and then rushed in to help the old man. Local emergency officials report that he has some serious injuries, including a leg broken in several places. Doctors said that he will recover, but it will be a long recovery.

It can honestly be said that this was not the fault of the tourist this time. It is a reminder of how dangerous these animals can be even when we humans are doing everything right.
