The Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for parts of southeast Wyoming over the next few days.

As of Sunday morning, neither Cheyenne nor Laramie was included in the watch area, but the agency also said that the watch area might be expanded as the storm moves into the region.

Forecasters did say that Laramie has a 69 percent chance of getting four inches of snow or more, while Cheyenne has a 35 percent chance. Casper, Douglas, and Lusk were included in the watch area, as were the Sierra Madre and Snowy Range mountain ranges.

The agency posted the following on its website:

8 AM 12/11/2022 – Winter Storm Watches have been expanded across the Nebraska panhandle and overall forecast snow totals have increased since yesterday.
The agency issued a special weather statement on Saturday that included the following;
  • A potent winter storm is expected to bring strong winds and accumulating snowfall to the area on Monday.

  • Wind gusts in excess of 45-55mph will create low visibility and near blizzard conditions at times when combined with accumulating snow.

  • Areas of highest confidence in snowfall accumulations reside in the Pine Ridge areas from the northern Nebraska Panhandle into east central Wyoming.

  • Additional areas of high confidence of snowfall accumulations reside in the Snowy and Sierra Madre mountain ranges.
