We think of America as one nation under one flag.

Actually, our republic is 50 seperate countries, or states, working under one cooperative agreement.

But let's think of it another way.

What if we seperate America into regions, based on culture?

According to the video below...

Within the United States today, there are different cultural nations that each have their own values, priorities, and preferences.

And each of these nations competes and cooperates depending on the issues.

Oh, and the most important bit?

These nations do NOT fall along state borders.

What if America were to split up?

We would not split into 50 different states, but rather 12 different cultural regions.

Let's have a look at where Wyoming would fit into all of this.

We would be in the Far West Nation, which includes Alaska.

As you might imagine, the region we call "The West" would take up a lot of land but have the least amount of people.

It is primarily a cowboy culture of Independent-minded people who mostly want to be left alone.

Eleven Rival Regional Cultures of North America is an American non-fiction book written by Colin Woodard and published in 2011. Woodard proposes the idea of 11 distinct American cultures that would comprise 11 separate countries.

"It isn’t that residents of one or another nation all think the same, but rather that they are all embedded within a cultural framework of deep-seated preferences and attitudes – each of which a person may like or hate, but has to deal with nonetheless," Woodard explains.

Look to the extreme west of our nation and notice a thin line that runs from Washington state all the way down to the bottom of California. That is really a culture in itself.
