Historic Wyoming Sign Goes Up For Auction
Here is a chance to own a literal sign of Wyoming's past.
It's up for auction on the Liveauction Website.
The starting price is just $10.
BUT HOLD ON! This is not just a sign. That bank building has quite a history.
The First State Bank of Baggs, also known as the Bank Club, is a building in Baggs, Wyoming, USA. Built in 1907–08 to house a bank, it is one of the relatively few original buildings left in Baggs.
After the bank closed in 1924, the building became a doctor's office.
During Prohibition, it housed a bootleg liquor business.
After Prohibition was repealed, it became Baggs Liquor. Talk about irony.
In 1946, it was renamed the Bank Club Bar, which means it was still serving booze.
The one-story log structure is covered by stamped sheet metal and has a Greek Revival pedimented front.
The First State Bank of Baggs was placed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 13, 1984.
Also located in Baggs is a small cabin where Butch Cassidy, Sundance, and the gang would make frequent stops while on the run.
Population 407, the tiny town is located in southwest Carbon County, on the Little Snake River.
Today Baggs is known for its beautiful high desert landscape and substantial coalbed methane reserves.
Public lands surrounding the town are abundant, from the Red Desert to the Sierra Madre Mountain Range.
In recent years, over 200 exploratory wells have been drilled, with several producing gas.
Hunting is the single largest recreational activity that occurs in the Little Snake Basin and the Sierra Madre mountains.
