While I was attending a charity fundraising event in Cheyenne, a gentleman approached me about a project he was working on for Disabled American Vets around Wheatland, Wyoming.

"I am starting a DAV chapter in Wheatland, Wyoming, so veterans do not have to travel all the way to Cheyenne to get help with claims, " he explained. "I am working on getting 25 people to join, and if I can get 25 or more to join DAV will train me to help veterans to file claims, and they will provide me with an office in Wheatland."

He hopes to serve all of Platte County, Northern Laramie County, Torrington, and Douglas, Wyoming.

If you are a veteran and have not joined the VA, or need to file claims, you can call him at 307-482-9271.

He does not have a website or social media up yet, but if the ball gets rolling, those things will come.

There is no established, permanent Disabled American Veterans (DAV) chapter directly located in Wheatland, Wyoming, though local veterans are served by regional programs and nearby chapters.

For direct benefits claims and filing assistance, veterans in Platte County typically connect with regional chapters or National Service Officers through the DAV Office Locator, such as DAV Chapter #2 (Guthrie Beck) in Cheyenne or DAV Chapter #1 (H.J. Leik) in Casper. (DAV).

There are enough disabled vets, along with their friends and family, to get something going. This is the latest local attempt to organize and provide some assistance in what is a very rural area.

Jay Em, Wyoming, Frozen In Time

Jay Em, what an unusual name for a town. The few people who live there are proud of what their spot on earth once was, and they work to preserve it. They keep this little community frozen in time.
